Digging deep to reveal the relentless spirit of her music-making, XANI spent two COVID lockdowns learning the art of webcams, live streaming software, and a myriad of new hardware and effects pedals. It was during her Twitch live streams that she soothed her global audience - including a Portland man who’d been protesting on the streets for 40 days straight, a surgeon from Milwaukee, and a local ICU doctor, scared and exhausted.

Each week, XANI’s themed, improvised performances - including a set inspired by the music of Kraftwerk, a disco-delicious jam complete with glittering sequins and projections, and a suite of hymns whose text was derived from her audience’s hopes and prayers for the world - lifted the spirits of those who joined her. It even helped to lift her own spirits in a drought of gigs and work.

Now comes a reimagined version of XANI’s single, Lion mixed and mastered by Isaac Barter (Didirri, Alex the Astronaut, Oh Pep!). This single is inspired by the many re-workings of songs XANI performed on her Twitch streams. It also kicks off XANI’s new Twitch series (supported by Creative Victoria) beginning in June, exploring interactive songwriting with her audience and new music release strategies in an industry where recording new music doesn’t pay.
